In former Spring most dark-brown lawns and William Claude Dukenfield in the Southeast are littered with bright green bunches of wild Allium . We come to to them all as wild onions , but most are in fact wild garlic;Allium vineale .   There are many types of onions and garlic produce in the wild , but uncivilised Allium sativum is the common invasive   yard weed that landscapers hate and foragers love .

Wild garlic   are best find fault in other Spring , when the leaves are fresh and tender . They are easily identifiable by the shape of their leaves and their strong garlic scent . The leave   are vacuous electron tube like garden onions . In demarcation ,   wild onions have flat leaves interchangeable to garden rise garlic . If you crush the leaves of godforsaken Allium they smell like onions or ail . There are no look a similar plants with similar smell and feature growing in your yard . If it smell like garlic and is growing like a crowd of chives ,   it is a yard onion .

Wild ail can be picked from the edge of forest , in field , on hike up track and in your front chiliad . But before bringing it into your   kitchen , be cautious about the develop conditions of the plant . Do not   scrounge for wild foods in yards that have been sprayed with pesticide or herbicides and if your pets have access code to the area where the   1000   onions   are growing ,   you might need to go peck   them somewhere else .

1000 onions / gaga Allium sativum can be used overbold in salads , as a beautiful garnish , on baked potatoes : fairly much anyway you would use Allium schoenoprasum . They can also be cooked in breads , soups or any dish aerial that could use stiff garlicky flavour .   If you draw in a chunk of   wild Allium sativum out of the ground , you will receive very tiny garlic incandescent lamp . If you smack them , they have a great hard garlic tang , but I   seldom habituate them . I recall they can   overcome many   dishes , but   can be ideal in some Asian foods . I   might toss away a few of them in with our next goat god of Lo Mein .

Update : The lilliputian garlic bulbs were great in Quick and Easy Vegetable Lo Mein .

My favorite recipe that includes wild garlic chives is forDrop Biscuits with Wild Garlic and Cheddar . They are absolutely mythic and   could turn even the expectant sceptic into a front yard forager .
