Kerri updates us onthe snake bean she plantedafter reading my bookTotally Crazy Easy Florida Gardening … and all is not well :
Hi , David ! Remember a few weeks ago when I sent you a picture of my beautiful snake beans ?
Well , seem at them now :

I ’ve had leaf mineworker pretty much since the rootage , and we take that they make the leaves look a footling uncanny but they wo n’t damage your works .
In the last workweek I ’ve noticed that the plant life are producing less and a peck of the industrial plant , including some of the new vines , are wrick a bit yellow . Some of the leaves are really damage , as you could see …
… and some appear like they have rust spots .

Alsoin audiobook!
What can I do about leaf miners on other plant ? I ’ve started mash them inside the parting , but I probably ca n’t do every single folio .
Do these works run their form toward the remainder of summer ? Or do I have some sort of problem here ? I go out every single morn to reap , and I have n’t seen any bean beetles or really any louse on the plant except for pocket-sized ants . They ’ve also been there since the first .
We had aphids for a few day , and I put out some ma’am bug and we have n’t seen one aphid since then . That was June , I believe . There was a wasp that was always buzzing around , but I have n’t seen him in for a while .

As you’re able to also see here , the vines are begin to have brown musca volitans on them .
That may be normal , I ’m not sure . I did n’t really pay attention at the beginning because I was so beguiled with the beans , but now I ’m reckon for every short affair that could be wrong . I wo n’t be too upset if we have to commit out this plant because we ’ve gotten loads of noggin from it , but I ’d love to keep it and permit it bring forth as long as potential !
The other day I cleaned up all of the fallen leave and stuff under the industrial plant , and when I did I found a weird bug that looked like a poke or a leech . It was black and slimy . Anyway , I clean it all up and inseminate and mulched . My husband has now and again peed on the plants this summer like you recommended .

Haha !
Here ’s a close facial expression at a few different leafage problem :
As a new vegetable gardener , I ’m not sure what to do . I do n’t want to spray anything if I can help it . Did I tell you I have folio mineworker on some of my other industrial plant , too ? rage bloom , okra , and already some on my tomato and tomatillo seedling ! !

And spider hint on the milkweed . Really big . totally webbed over the blooms and foliage . I cut them down and they ’re look good again now , but the blighter make me sad . I feel like it ’s a battle I ca n’t win .
Over the last month , there have been 2 or 3 “ stunted ” beans – they got fertile and were bulging with beans inside the seedpod , but the pod was only maybe 5 - 6″ long . I reckon not every noggin is staring , so I compost those . I ’ve compost several fallen or icteric or leaf miner - damage leafage , thinking that the nitrogen would be upright for the compost .
This sunup when I went out to reap , I noticed that the beans have n’t grow much since yesterday . This is all abnormal , as you bang . If I leave a few recollective - ish beans on the plant , they will be teras the next day .

I ’d appreciate any sentiment or advice you have prison term to impart !
Again , thank you so much . I realize that this is all an experimentation , but I want to be certain not to damage the rest of my garden with diseased plant in the compost . I am start to get pretty discouraged by the pests .
Anyway , sorry for the super farsighted email ! I appreciate you and your web log and your videos . Thank you !

After aim this email , I told Kerri that I really only serve garden questions from multitude that include pictures of pinkish toss - flops …
… and then she sent this picture :
Close enough .

venture I ’m hold to answer now , darn it .
So What’s Wrong With These Yard-long Beans?
As I write Kerri : in short , they ’re old !
ophidian beans , though more vigorous and fat than the other beans I ’ve grown , must finally come to an end .
The leaf - mineworker are a common problem , as are aphids . rusting and mildews tend to only be a problem as the plant near the remainder of their spirit , though . I do n’t worry about any of these outlet since the works are n’t unremarkably phased by them . One reader narrate me he had to give up develop yard long beans because they were all eaten up by aphids , so I recognise that can be serious on social function , but it has n’t been a job in my gardens .

I have a suspicion it ’s because I observe belt of weeds and perennial as places for piranha louse and other beneficials to cover .
My guess on how long we usually harvest yard - retentive beans would be about two months .
If you plant a Modern round of beans every calendar month or so through the saltation , summertime and fall , you ’ll speedily have more beans than you’re able to eat .

There is a decimal point where the dome just give up and that ’s what I see happening in Kerri ’s garden . Just plant more !
Can You Compost Sick Plants?
Some multitude say no .
I am not some people .
I wo n’t compost any perennial with fireblight ( those get burned for charcoal or ash ) , but I ’m not really worried about the mutual issues I see in the annual garden like mildew , black spot , etc . Those disease , in my opinion , are just passing seasonal condition that are likely to be completely destroyed in the combat-ready microecology of a compost pile .

COMPOST EVERYTHING !
Alsoin audiobook !
I have n’t had any bother with disease returning via compost , so far as I can tell . They seem more linked to mood conditions and harvest rotary motion than to bewilder yesterday ’s industrial plant into the pile to feed tomorrow ’s seedlings .

ultimately , thanks for taking all the nice pictures , Kerri . You should consider switching to black and white and draw near gritty urban art gallery .
