TheNew York Botanical Gardenis a vision to see no matter what time of twelvemonth it is . The 100 + -year - old   National Historic Landmark ’s museum of botanical has interest and events listed for each season : spring , summer , fall , and wintertime . I had the rarefied opportunity to visit the garden in the fifth time of year . Traditional Chinese Medicine has identified late summertime or a warm fall as the fifth season , a time for grounding , balancing , and renewal ; where negative forces are released and new energy is digest . It is a time for appreciating and respecting the earth and I ’m grateful that I was able to take part by touring the NYBG .

Weather and climate play an intact   purpose in gardens , and so with New York consume a cooler - than - average summer and then soar upwards temperatures at the end of September , the gardens did n’t look like autumn gardens . The pumpkins had mature and were on display , but the perennial were blooming as if they were delight a mid - summertime ’s day .

There are many collection and gardens throughout the web site , but there were a few that were particularly interesting in the fifth time of year : the recurrent garden , the conservatory , the Children ’s Adventure Garden , and the Chihuly   meth prowess sculptures display throughout .

NYBG Tour Perennial Garden and Conservatory

From April through the end of October 2017 , artist Dale Chihuly has a collection of whimsical field glass sculptures integrate around the garden . I ’m very   familiar with Chihuly glass art , living so close to Seattle where the permanentChihuly Gardens and Glasshas had a heavy influence on artists in the arena .

Despite my familiarity , I was still taken with the soaring carving , organic forms , and brilliant colors of his work .

Even more so , the diversity of the pieces   picture dissimilar means to mix the fine art with the gardens . The artwork appeared inside the indoor garden as well to adorn the lush   tropicals and flowing fountains .

The indoor garden was also home to a number of carnivorous   plants and a desert garden that is not to be missed . It was a stark direct contrast to the beam glass and flowing flowers .

Outside , the recurrent garden have both formal and wilder plantings .

The gardens are set up up in a series of rooms .

These collections of museum - caliber botanical were a sight to see , but it was at the Children ’s Adventure Garden that I was able to find my ground . I took so many photo in this garden that I ’ll write about it individually , but for now , I ’ll divvy up just a few of the more refined displays like this bent of fall container ,

and a loaded beautyberry ( Callicarpa ) in front of a smart blue spindle .

Now , it   is fourth dimension to say goodbye to the 5th season and see toward the gloam as it get cooler and we look to closing down the garden for the year . I ’m grateful to have had the experience of chaffer the New York Botanical Garden at this unique time of class .
