SixOnSaturday

It seems the autumn atmospheric condition will take a back rear end for a week or two . My local prognosis does not promise mediterranean blue skies and sunshine , only unspoiled summertime conditions . Sunshine and downy white cloud , 23 degrees or so , no rainwater . Lovely . I am still plodding along with the irrigation system , I need to get a wiggle on with that or I ’ll be condemned to hours of tearing . Anyway , time for Six on Saturday . Six things , in the garden , on a Saturday . Could be anything – a flower , a success , a failure , a locoweed , a pestilence , a caper to do , anything at all . Join in !

Here are my Six for this week …

1 – Gaillardia , blanket flower . I grow these from seed last yr , perchance the class before . There are just 2 or 3 plant but they are perforate above their weight , generating a fate of flower power .

2 – Gladioli . The variety is lost to history , although there is believably a label somewhere in the jungle . It ’s a light-green one , anyway . I bought a few plurality of gladioli corms for peanuts in the end of time of year sale last yr . They depend to be stronger plant life this twelvemonth , although they do still have an annoying habit of flopping over when the flowers are out . I ’d put in some support but I am out of canes and ca n’t get hold of any , everywhere seems to be sold out . Fair warning , I bought even more glads this year in a similar final stage of season frenzy .

3 – Malope ‘ vulcan ’ . Not a plant I ’ve grown before , and it has not been plain glide . I tend to default to inseminate in stool or modules then planting out , push aside the emphatic “ seed unmediated ” instructions . I am lento learning that it may say that for a reason . I ’ve ended up with a few spindly industrial plant with just an occasional blossom . It ’s a shame , as a group of these would make an impact , I think . I love the green star glow in the midriff . Next year I shall sow direct .

4 – genus Papaver ‘ queen ’s poppy ’ . Another industrial plant that would have been happier to grow where it was sown rather than transpose . It is a spindly plant . Next twelvemonth I will just scatter some seed . Learning … .

5 – Hydrangea . I buy this for noggin off the pity bench . I just plonked it in a bare straight inch of dirt in the front garden . It was a bit swamped by the much big saintly that I institute too close , to the point where I forgot it was even there until I yanked out the angelica . It is a small one , but is flower gamely . Variety is a mystery , I ’m not sure there was a recording label on the plant when I bought it .

6 – Dahlia ‘ collarette dandy ’ . It has been a sundry bag with the dahlias this year . Mostly , the sluggard and snails have got the better of me , stripping bare several dahlias , both sure-enough and new . I grow this from seed this class , just a packet I pick up for 50p . The photograph on the packet promise a mix of fairly lary colouration . Most did n’t make it , but this one was planted in a pot on the patio where I can keep an eye on it . It is a rather plain gamboge yellow , not at all lary , I quite like it . I mainly like it for not being eaten .
