Panayoti Kelaidis is the elderly curator and film director of outreach atDenver Botanic Gardens , a found member and collaborator with thePlant Selectplant introduction programme , and an active member and retiring United States President of theNorth American Rock Garden Society .
In his clause on stone horticulture for the October 2023 issue he says , “ The active apposition between plants and well - placed stones has an intrinsically artistic , sculptural effect . And to top it all off , a rock garden will often prevail with far less cut down back , deadheading , and fussing than a bed filled with perennial or annuals would require . ”
If you are interested in taking up rock music gardening , Panayoti recommends start with species that are native to your region , combined with plants from like climate around the world . For model , Panayoti ’s latest crevice garden is filled with industrial plant from the Rocky Mountains and Great Plains , supplemented with species from Central Asia , South Africa , and even Patagonia . The species used were choose for their power to survive Denver ’s hot , ironic summers and moth-eaten winters . These require less effort to give and keep than alpine plants from the European Alps , which have traditionally been used in rock gardens .
