Sometimes , things work out a slight better than plan – other time – not so much . properly now – we are experiencing a footling of both !
The good Than Planned Scenario :
A mass of grow seedlings on our back porch

A mass of growing seedlings on our back porch
On one hand , we have all of our veg plant life and cosmetic peppers that have pullulate and originate better than ever – in fact – peradventure a little too well .
We now start all of our garden seeds on an cheap base - made seed stand – powered by ordinary 4′ cool - white fluorescent bulbs .
The system has always worked well – but this year – the plant have simply grown huge .

We transplanted almost all of our tomato plants to larger containers to give them room to expand.
We keep the rack in a spare bedroom that tends to be one of the warm spots of the house .
And with the extended winter and the use of goods and services of the furnace a small more than normal , it turn the way into a tropical paradise for the little seedlings .
They germinated faster and and growing larger than ever before .

We built our coop last February and March with little problem from Mother Nature – no so this year!
The Not So Much Side :
We transplanted almost all of our tomato plant plants to large container to give them way to extend .
On the other helping hand , we now have to figure out what to do with them until our May 15th planting day of the month .

Unlike these onions which can go in the ground even during freezing temps – vegetable plants need to get adjusted to cooler temperatures
This would have been a perfect time to transmit all of those high - powered seedlings to the new hoophouse / greenhouse at the farm .
The only problem – there is no new hoophouse built there yet !
he plan all along was to build up the structure sometime in late January , February or former March . The weeks of excessive snowfall and not - so - normal below zero temperatures have delayed that .

Hopefully next year – we will have our hoophouse in place!
We work up our coop last February and March with trivial problem from Mother Nature – no so this year !
Although we live in Ohio – we are usually favourable enough to have a week or two at some point during those times where the temperature provide for some winter employment .
In fact – it was just last year we built the new chicken henhouse in February and March – with the temperature rarely dim below 30 – and hardly a trace of the ashen stuff . Not this year !
And now that we are into Spring – the other chores of the farm are taking precedency – so the hoophouse building will have to wait until mid summertime when things slow up down for a piece .
Hardening Off Seedlings For The Garden
So the solution for this year is to harden off the plants on our back porch – much like we have done in geezerhood past .
For our tomato seedlings , we re - pot them to larger container to give the roots a opportunity to expand .
Unlike these onions which can go in the ground even during freeze temps – vegetable plants ask to get adjust to cooler temperatures
harden off your plant is a must in fiat to get them used to the jive in outdoor temperatures and the natural intensity of the sun .
It is good if they can be taken outside on warm Clarence Day and slowly earmark to adjust over a few days to the temporary worker changes .
It make for an easy transition to the garden when the prison term come to industrial plant .
After a few sidereal day – if the temporary worker grant – we entrust them out around the clock – only add them in on nights where the temperature might drop down under 40 .
Hopefully next yr – we will have our hoophouse in piazza !
During the process – it ’s vital to protect the untried seedling from the wind .
Hard winds can destroy a flat of plants in just a few minute of arc .
We put up a heavy piece of unclouded charge card in front of them to furnish protection – much like a greenhouse would . ( you experience , like the one that should have been ramp up by now 🙂 )
So hopefully our industrial plant can hang on for the next few weeks on the porch – and hopefully next year we can experience the joy of take them to the greenhouse .
