We have lived in our current house for seven years , and ever since we moved in , we ’ve been wanting to refashion our front porch . The unexpended front recess was sinking , and the concrete was cracked , rugged and flaking . A porch renovation is a openhanded - budget reparation , so we ’ve had to put it off , but this year , we decided to bite the bullet and replace the porch , take the air and step .
As with all costly home repair , I solicited several command from contractors particularise in concrete work . Once we settled on “ the right guy , ” he work with us to make a new designing for the paseo and footmark . Here we are , one month after , in the midst of our porch makeover .
The porch is n’t finished yet , but hopefully in a few weeks , when the concrete has full cured and the rail has been installed , I ’ll be able to apportion an “ after ” guess . Come spring , I plan to build a planting bed along each side of the pass and replace the shrub we had to dig out in rescript to make the repair .

The porch repair process began just before Halloween , with an eight - serviceman crew and a pneumatic hammer . They had to bankrupt up the old paseo , steps and porch before they could point the bricks and begin to build the new porch .
Once the smash up concrete was hauled away , they began to build the wood frame that would become the steps and take the air . These are the step lead from the private road up to the walk .

This photo was taken before the frames were positioned and leveled . replace all the brick and rebuilding the porch from the ground up was out of our budget , so instead , they point the existing brick , which we will eventually cover with stone or stucco .
They use these empty stake with nail holes through them to cautiously position the underframe and enable it to bear the weight of the wet concrete in lieu .
They take the frames with besotted concrete and smoothed the top to charge . Because we decided on a surface of exposed aggregate , the concrete will be allowed to cure overnight , and then it will be pressure moisten to expose the pebble beneath .
All the poured concrete was covered with charge plate for 24 hours . The crowd will then come back with the pressure washer and add a layer of concrete sealer to finish the job . The next step is selecting the railing and have the planting beds prepared for next saltation .
