Carrying on a family gardening legacy
My name is Mark Couture from Chatham , Ontario , Canada , and gardening is something I ’ve become passionate about over the years . I can say I inherited my green thumb from my grandmother . watch her at a young age strike care of her flowers and plant seeded stake in me to garden . Since then what an amazing delight it has been to take part in make beautiful portraits in the landscape . horticulture is a benediction in my living !
blood-red Asiatic lily ( Liliumhybrid , Asian group , Zones 4–9 ) glow against a backdrop of green .
Containers do n’t just have to be for little annuals . Here a big purple coneflower ( Echinaceapurpurea , Zones 3–9 ) adds acme , line , and a big attraction for visitingpollinators .

Morecontainer plantings , with dark- and light - allow sweet potato vine ( Ipomoeabatatas , annual ) allow for foliage color to complement the flower .
Tall phlox ( Phloxpaniculata , Zones 4–8 ) is another perennial native to North America that is much get it on by butterfly .

An unusualwater feature of speech , in the pattern of a rock’n’roll with water bubbling over it , is the centre of this planting .
The shallow stream of water attracts Bronx cheer , like this colorful short manly Carduelis carduelis .
A shot from Mark’spollinator garden , where regal coneflowers and black - eyed Susans ( Rudbeckiafulgida , Zones 3–9 ) in full blush attract pollinators like this disgraceful morning coat butterfly .

Male ( top leftover ) and female ( bottom right ) goldfinches feast on the seed in pass off coneflower blooms . This is a good monitor that if you do n’t deadhead , your coneflowers will turn into natural bird feeders .
