In a Vase on Monday. May Posies.
What did T. S. Eliot say?‘April is the cruellest calendar month procreation lilacs out of the dead land’ . Well this yr he has got it improper . May is being very capricious and barbarous . On Saturday , I expend all day dodge and dive to deflect hailstorm and got repeatedly soaked . Yesterday the weather idol make up any pretext of being seasonal and it felt like February . Only colder . Of course this is the May Bank Holiday practical joke , it often come about . So I bring in armfuls of the garden into the house and settled down for a recollective easy dejeuner with friends .
First of all Spanish bluebells . I am infest with them . I have give up trying to dig them up . I have a go at it they hybridise with our beautiful native Scilla nonscripta but I go for that I am far enough away from the nearest bluebell Mrs. Henry Wood . In the meantime the best way to stop them seeding is to tuck armfuls and bring them in spite of appearance .
The next vase uses shades of yellow and orange .

Smyrnium perfoliatum
I started off with some sulphurous yellowSmyrnium perfoliatum . This plant life seeds around once you have it and is endearing for heyday arrangements . It is like a crossbreed between euphorbia and moo-cow parsley but in brilliant Zen yellow .
genus Smyrnium perfoliatum
The epimedium is ‘ Amber Queen ’ which is the liberal floral and showiest genus Epimedium I have . The flowers last for ages .

Epimedium‘Amber Queen ’
There is a little sprig of pale yellowEpimedium sulphureum . It is very goody and does n’t have the long prodding of ‘ Amber Queen ’ .

I used two narcissus , the first is the neat little JonquillaNarcissus‘Sundisc ’ which is a lovely fragrant heirloom variety .
Narcissus‘Sundisc ’
The second is even more fragrant . It is the whiteNarcissus‘Petrel ’ The gleam white does n’t quite go with the other color but it is staying in because it is so pretty and smell endearing .

Tellima grandiflorais also handy for flower arrangements . I have never planted it but it seeds about with great enthusiasm and it is very utile for shady areas . It has little potato of hairy scalloped leaves and greenish efflorescence . you could see the little bell shaped efflorescence on either side of the next exposure .
The cowslip is one I grow from semen calledPrimula veris‘Sunset Shades ’ . It comes in various subtlety from bass yellow to orange to red . I finished it off with a sprig of lovelyRosa‘Helen Knight ’ which I feature in my Six on Saturday .

For the table I did a small placement because my chef does n’t like it if I trouble from the food with large arrangement which get in the way of the food for thought and the conversation .
Fortuitously the pink tulip gentian , theGeranium macrorrhizum‘Ingwerson ’ and the minuscule epimedium all match each other and the vase . I have never implant this geranium and it spreads with great ebullience but I quite like it for its former appearance . The epimedium is called ‘ Pink Elf ’ and it peeps out demurely from amongst the leave rather than shouting ‘ Here , look at me ! ’ in the disdainful manner of ‘ Amber Queen . ’
A bit of blue looks quite nice with these colouring material so I used a primula and a couple of sprays of loveyOmphalodes cappadocica‘Starry Eyes ’ . I have sex its piddling blue and bloodless Forgetmenot character flowers .

Epimedium‘Amber Queen’
Just for fun this twelvemonth I grew some treble daisy I think they were calledBellis perennis‘Pomponette , you may see them in the centre . I am rummy to see how long last they are in a vase . I might grow more next year .
The mauve flowers are from a benighted purple leaved honesty calledLunaria annua‘Chedglow ’ . It is a lovely plant , unfortunately storm ‘ Hannah ’ blew her over and I have not got round to propping her up .

Epimedium sulphureum
The next photograph has nothing to do with my vase but while we are talking about Honesty , I recollect the very best isLunaria annuavar . Albiflora‘Alba variegata ’ . The plant get as big as a shrub and are very showy .

My board nosegay was finished off with a little rose . It is a bit mishsapen but it is the utter colour .

Narcissus‘Sundisc’
Thank you Cathy for encouraging me to pick blossom to jolly along up a parky Bank Holiday Monday . If you bug out over toRambling in the Gardenyou can see what Cathy and other vase filler have been doing . Now I had better put on a pinafore and dissemble to be helpful in the kitchen , although as common The Pianist has everything well under control and I am quite superfluous .

So much to look at but my eye was catch by the Smyrnium . I cerebrate I need that next yr ! Is it sappy like Euphorbia ? I think we have to take the Spanish Scilla nonscripta . I prod some up last year , so I believe , but they are back . They go very late and I obviously do n’t . bang all the vase and the variegated Honesty .
Hail in May ! At least you were able to take advantage of the plenteous flowers in your garden to adorn your house for your enjoyment and that of your guests . I was surprised to see that you still have Narcissus in bloom but I judge I should n’t have been as obviously your clime is very different from mine . ( Hail . ) I love the Epimediums and really am tempted to quiz my climate ’s bound by engraft some here . I look up to the Lunaria too but the 3 plant I tried pop off within a month of planting .
A glorious time of year , even when Mother Nature gives us a few chilly days here and there ! You pick some awesome blooms for your vases . Many of your bloom are blooming here , too . felicitous IVOM . 🙂

Narcissus‘Petrel’
Chloris , lovely that you have so many beautiful prime for your arrangement already — the primrose and duple daisy are such rich colors . Thanks for sharing your flowered bounty ! -Beth
