In a Vase on Monday and Toolshed Monster gets a New Lease of Life.

Cathy atRamblinginthegardenhosts the democratic meme , In a Vase on Monday . Her arrangements are usually jell off with appropriate props . I do n’t know how she does it .   My first vase this week features   flush from my cheap , remnant of season , dry up , Dahliatuber , ‘ shepherd’s pipe ’   which is blossom attractively .   I   calculate up the word , ‘ shepherd’s pipe ’ and it mean a small bagpipe or   sort of hautbois . you may be certain if Cathy was using this dahlia in an arrangement , there would be a miniature hautbois or a diminutive   set of bagpipes setting the whole thing off . plausibly both .   Musette   can also mean a knapsack or shoulder bag , but that would look silly . So with apology to Cathy , once again with no props , here is my first vase . With Musette I have used the white potato vineSolanum jasminoidesand   a few branchlet ofSalvia‘Hot Lips ’ . It is strange that as the time of year lead on the flowers of thisSalviabecome whiter . I picked a   duet of flowers ofAnemone x hybrida‘Andrea Atkinson ’ . I have never used Anemones in flower arrangements before , Vita Sackville West says they loll their heads , so we will see . Finally I used some whiteSaponaria officinaliswhich spread rather fast , but I love it and it smells lovely .

For my second arrangement I used some fleeceable flowers ;   I know not everyone care unripened flush but I make out them . The   flowers of the annualNicotiana langsdorfiihave the merit in my eye ,   of being glistening , green and bell mold ; I love Alexander Bell forge blossom . I also used some buds of the unripened climb up , Rosa viridiflora . This come up as a fun ofRosa chinensis . I know some hoi polloi will say it is an aberrance . It has no petal , just rows of sepals . It was discovered in   1856   so it has been around for some fourth dimension . It seems that other people in the yesteryear have like its quaint , antiquey look . If you draw a blank that it is a rose and do n’t have a bun in the oven scent and luscious flower petal , then may be you may enjoy it like I do . Lots of people detest it , I live .   I have   just noticed that one bud   has been chew .

When the flowers ofRosa viridfloraare open up the effect is green and crimson . This is what it looked like in the first place in the Summer . As you see , there are no petals . I can hear your cries of disgust from here . Shush , I feel very protective about this heartfelt fiddling rose . It may not be flamboyant , OK , it is rather odd , but I care it .

The spiky seed heads are a mystery plant which appeared this yr . I call back it was a teasle at first as it grew so tall , but the little head stay on small . It is quite prickly . I would love to know what it is . The berries areViburnum opulusand the commonArumwhich is a bit of a weed in my garden . As I have used light-green flowers today , I cogitate it would be fun to utilize red leaves . TheParthenocissusquinquefoliahas started to turn burnished red so that is what I have used . It all looks a bit autumnal but I hypothesize that   ca n’t be facilitate   as we creep soggily into September . This creeper is hanging in curtains over the old stable which houses my ingloriously mussy works pot shed . I wrote in aprevious postabout the horror of this shed , which despite the occasional half - hearted effort to neaten it stay impenetrable . My lovely Beatrice painted a wonderful toolshed monster which we are convinced lurks within this shed .

Now my Toolshed Monster has a new term of a contract of aliveness . The player OTT require Beatrice to do the artwork for his new album , ‘ Fairchildren ’ . When he saw a picture of the   giant he had to have it .

I ca n’t comment on the medicine as I am told I have cloth ears   and what do I know about these matters ? But it is nice that OTT has given the Monster a fresh letting of life on his record album cover .

But I digress , do bring together in with us and put some flowers from your gardenIn a Vase on Monday .

Oh I eff the monster … and your unusual rose . The first vase is lovely with the two - toned dahlia … different coloring that I have not see before . And I sleep with the mix in the second vase … very originative and clever .

Both your vases seem great , Chloris ! A short flake of autumn in the 2d one , isn ’ t it ?

What a cool ogre ! Your arrangement are lovely as always & I especially care the berries in the second one . Your interesting rose institutionalize me off to do some cyberspace searching .

I love both these vase , Chloris . The red and white arrangement just sings . ( Perhaps its song will keep the Toolshed Monster at bay if he make loose ) . Your floral tribute to the the coming fall time of year is also very originative – the berries are my favorite aspect of the musical arrangement but I value your super C rose too . Congratulations to Beatrice on her album commission and to you for , indirectly , do as her muse .

I bed the easiness of the red and white vase ; I get hold myself thinking how strange a compounding it is – and then wondering why ! And I do love green flowers myself and have enquire whether I could get out with some Nicotiana here in the desert ; it will take the heat , I do n’t doubt , but perhaps not the teetotal winds ! Your lovely second vase does nothing to warn my programme for trying it eventually … what could be more entrancing than greenish toll flowers 😉

Your lily-white and cherry-red colors are so crisp and virginal , such a joyfulness to behold . The 2nd vase is more discordant , various factions vying for attention , tooting their own apple unripe trumpet . I does have an autumnal feeling for me . The monster in our tool shed is much hairier and with a farseeing buns . I ’ll take yours , he seems more fun . What an opportunity for Beatrice , and what cute drawings !
