How Did You First Get Into Gardening?
“ I talk to a portion of people about how they got into horticulture when I question them for the Garden Design course I run , but usually it is to do with their history , ” explains Humaira .
“ For me , my parents had a garden which was their secure chancel for them and us , to advert out in . My parent loved horticulture , but who wants to be like their parent ? But then I bought a mansion , we had a garden and everything changed .

What Steered You Towards A Career In Garden Design?
“ At a old job , the companionship I worked for was offering redundancy packages and part of the package meant that you could retrain in another area , ” she deal .
“ I was n’t up for redundance , but I asked my boss for it and used the money to retrain and become a garden decorator .
“ I did n’t know anything when I start . My parent loved gardens , but no one know botanic public figure or had any training on how gardens grow , but as I grow honest-to-god I feel that this way of horticulture has tangible note value . “ I just really want to create beautiful and useful spaces for people and nature . I still ca n’t conceive people pay me for my idea ! ”
What Does Your Process For Designing Gardens Look Like? What Are You Inspired By?
“ I always embark on off by going to the site and meeting the node . I think it ’s really important to have a good link with the customer , to understand what they desire , and for them to understand me , so we always commence off with a whole display about me and my work so we live that we are on the same pageboy .
“ We take care at sustainable answer to planting problems . My design are plant - establish , which I think is what brings the thaumaturgy . I really care to get to know the clients and ask them to imagine about what they care .
“ Often , I ask customer to send me a playlist and I act that whilst design for them to get a taste for them as people .
“ There ’s a lot of gathering of entropy . It is a collaborative effort between me and the clients . It ’s principally about what they want to do in it . I want it to shape but also be surprising and something a fleck alone .
“ I ensure that there ’s always some kind of story behind everything , which I discover really helps me . ”
Do You Have A Particular Favourite Memory Of A Garden You Have Designed?
“ What I love is live back to a garden and seeing how it has matured and how multitude are using it , ” Humaira Muse .
“ One of the very first gardens that I project I worked on for 10 - 12 years . They wanted a cricket net in their garden for their children , but just after we added it , the whole garden flooded in a monolithic weather event and for 2 - 3 hebdomad it was underwater !
“ It ’s a beautiful garden now , so it all work out in the end , but it goes to show that things can materialise that you do n’t expect !
“ I also designed my clients a space where they could host parties and they ’ve had lots of events there since , which is a really beautiful thing . I palpate like I ’m a small part of the process that has help make those memory . ”
What Does A Typical Working Day In The Life Look Like For You?
“ I do n’t really have one of those ! ” she jokes .
“ I course a trend at a college during term meter and I always go in early on and do all of my preparation and admin stuff then . In the morning , I usually have tutorials with students and then I ’m teaching . Because I ’m only in college 2 - 3 day a week , it ’s intense .
“ On the other day , it ’s a mash - up of affair . I ’ll see clients , do planting programme on my computer and describe up ideas . A lot of clock time is spend on my computer or iPad to create employment and visuals for client or contractors !
“ At other times of the year , I ’m doing show with my squad of industrial plant people , where we work out 12 - hour days . In the summer , I endeavor to slow down , because the sleep of the yr is so engaged . ”

“ I melt a Garden Design course of instruction and I ’ve done so since 2017 . Every year , I ’d assure student to search and go to garden talks and visits , but they did n’t know where to start out . There was n’t a exclusive place hub or blank where you could do that .
“ Myself and my protagonist , Darryl Moore , decided that because Garden Design is so collaborative , there needed to be a blank for people to be able to share and access knowledge .

“ Simply becoming a Garden Designer was telling to me , as I did n’t know that was a thing growing up ! I had so much to learn .
“ Working with Cleve West on projects was expectant as he was an artist I really admired .
“ The class I campaign is so rewarding as I get to see the student go off and start their careers .
“ The RHS require me to be a Garden Advisor which was brain - blowing . I ’m really golden . ”
What’s Next For You?
“ There ’s always thing live on ! ” she laughs .
“ I ’ve catch a few project going on at the bit . Old client have come back to me because they ’ve proceed house , so that ’s really exciting .
“ What I love is a somewhat unusual and exciting job . I have a few of those come up up at the consequence that I can share once they ’re there ! ”

“ The thing about Garden Design is that it is quite knotty . There ’s a lot you ’ve got to learn . People sometimes lowball that , but really – what have you get to lose ?
