Bringing some much needed color to gray winter days by reminiscing on last year’s bold summer blooms
Hi GPODers !
While we absolutely appreciate the minimise peach of wintertime gardens here at GPOD , we can also use a dose of summertime color to keep our spirits gamey when the outside public is cold and grey . Lee , from the Mohawk Valley of New York , is ply us with our invigorate dose of summer color today . Lee has often add toGarden Photo of the Dayover the years ( Lee ’s Tulips in Mohawk Valley , former Spring Blooms , Lee ’s Garden Through the Eyes of an Ant , Lee ’s Backyard Escape , etc . ) , and the collection of colors and openhanded blooms never disappoints . From the flavor of it , 2024 was no exception .
Well , we at last have some snow on the ground in central NYS . The month of December was quite nice to us , make 50 grade just before the new yr came in . It ’s now a central NYS wintertime .

I grabbed some photos from 2024 and thought I ’d seek to keep us out of the winter blues ( or may even preclude them a bit ) . I did some additional planting in my old veg garden which has made a full shift , not squeezing my undefended space any . I have great “ flow ” to any part of the yard so it ’s never “ work ” to get to a dissimilar area .
I care all lecturer and agriculturalist a good and gratifying winter . For those in the snowfall areas , we look forward to the spring when affair start pushing up , even through the snow , to say us “ we ’re almost there ” …
I ’m not trusted about you , but I ’ve formally make the point in winter where this kind of color experience a humans away . However , it is invigorating and inspiring to see shiny green foliage radiate in the Dominicus and fabulous flowers in all their glory .

Now this is the kind of white I want to see , not the snow that has been making an appearance every week or so around me . These appear to be perfectCasa Blanca lilies(Lilium‘Casa Blanca ’ , Zones 4–9 ) giving Lee a wonderful show last year .
Bountiful crew of pinkgarden phlox(Phlox paniculata , Zones 4–8 ) bloom go along the sunny display .
Of of course , Lee plants flock of contrast so lighter and brilliant varieties can really pop . A dark daylily in the center of this bed hit the unclouded pinkish lily andpurple coneflower(Phlox paniculata , Zones 4–8 ) pop .

Color from every corner ! I ’ll be spending the rest of my good afternoon daydreaming about being in Lee ’s sensational garden on a sunny mean solar day just like this one .
Another lily from Lee ’s collection that absolutely delights . ‘ Dizzy ’ lily ( Lilium‘Dizzy ’ , Zones 4–9 ) absolutely steal aid with their bright stripes and matching freckle .
in conclusion , another look at Lee ’s empurpled coneflower along with some sunshine - chickenhearted shameful - eyed Susan ( Rudbeckiahirta , Zones 3–7 ) .

give thanks you so much for helping us keep the winter blues at bay , Lee ! Your plushy beds and compelling combinations of color could convey some light to the cold , darkest of day .
