A meditative garden space
We recently visited Bob and Linda Vivian ’s beautiful Pennsylvania garden ( Gardening in Pennsylvania ) , and today Bob is welcoming us back to take a duty tour of their Japanese - elan garden .
This view looks through a tangle of the torso of the fringe tree(Chionanthusvirginicus , Zones 3–9 ) . It ’s not aJapanese maple(Acer palmatum , Zones 5–9 ) , which would be more traditional in a Nipponese garden , but it has fictional character and age .
I front at some of the stones in this picture and think back when Linda and I rolled them around like giant marbles . Ever seek to get a 250 lb . John Rock to posture perfectly on the first try ?

At the forefront isHosta‘Praying Hands ’ ( Zones 3–9)—so unique , so architectural . I love ’em . I had never seen them before , nor have I seen them since . In the desktop at top right is the stone terrace that I mull from . Because it ’s endocarp , you ca n’t meditate long in the frigid weather .
I recover this little iron kettle half buried at a job internet site many years ago . I like it in this spot . Beyond , in the upper left , is the recurrent garden take with colour andpollinators . It ’s a wonderfulcontrast .
This is the full view of the entire garden . you could see that the Nipponese - flair garden is not very magnanimous . It does , however , have everything as I intended . It ’s been my dream for a long time . I ’m satisfied .
