Cold climates still have wonderful wildflowers
Brody live in northern Alberta , Canada , and loves notice interestingnative plantsin the wild as well as growing all sort ofunusual plantsat home .
Drosera rotundifolia(sundew , Zones 3–8 ) is acarnivorous plantthat , like many louse eater , lives in bog . The constant catamenia of water through the peat bog leaches out almost all the nutrients , so this plant rely on luring insects to the sticky leaves , where they beat and are dissolved into fertilizer to allow this industrial plant to expand where few plants can .
When you think of northern Canada , you might not guess oforchids , but it does have some beautiful native metal money , like this incredibleCypripediumcalceolus(Zones 3–7 ) . Like so many orchid , it flourish in very specific conditions in the wilderness and can be hard to civilize in gardens .

But distinctly , where this orchidaceous plant is native , it is very felicitous indeed . attend at those incredible clumps in full bloom ! These are blooming at a park calledWagner Natural Areanear Edmonton , Alberta .
In add-on to enjoying unusual wildflowers , Brody cultivates odd works from around the world . Growing within , out of the Canadian frigidity , is thissucculentplantOrbeavariegata . Like many plants with a like colouration , it smell like rot meat to attract fly to cross-pollinate it . Brody says on this one the flavor is fairly faint , and a diminished price to pay for this beautiful bloom .
Growing from germ — with the right condition , this tiny seedling could produce into an enormoustropicaltree .

On thecactusTurbinicarpusschmiedickeanus , I love the contrast between the harsh spines and the delicate - looking flowers .
More infant works ! These are seedling of another cactus , Dolichotheleuberiformis . Growing cacti from cum can be knavish , as they can be a small frail when this lilliputian , and it can take them quite a while to get up to a more full-bodied size of it . But have you ever seen cuter tiny plant life ?
Conophytumcalculusis asucculentspecies aboriginal to South Africa with odd petty lips . Just add some googly eye , and it would be a face . It will produce a jaundiced flower that emerges from those unimpressed lips .

Not all cacti have to be maturate at heart in Canada . This isOpuntiapolychantha(prickly pear cactus , Zones 3–8 ) , which is one of the four coinage of cactus native in Canada . This one was learn growing in a national green .
