The answer was … not enough .
Sure , we do n’t really have to buy any vegetables ( with the exception of specialty things we do n’t grow , like Vidalia onions or tomato plant ) .
We ’re also pretty lay out on roots like angelical potatoes , turnips and yuca .
I always have bundles of viridity .
We also get a decent amount of berries , figs and other yield ( though nothing like we ’ll be getting in another yr or two ) .
Where our homestead falls short is in the realm of protein . We ’re buying eggs and meat and that ’s really a budget - grampus , especially with the on-going inflation in prices . Plus , I like to buy grass - fed and constitutive meat , which is really , really expensive .
I ’ve looked into the hypothesis of adding coney to the homestead for quite a while . They change state weeds into meat … lots of meat … but I just never figured out the logistics .
Then they fell into our laps when I was declare oneself four New Zealand rabbits in a trade for one of the pecan tree in my nursery .
It took me two Day to reckon out proper caparison and build a decent John Cage out of rescued lumber , roof dialog box and some hardware textile , but I did it .
My granddad would all make fun of my carpentry if he were still here on land , but it works and it ’s firm . It also cost me very small since it ’s mostly pallet wood and previous fencing board . Heck , quite a few of the nails are even reclaim .
Less than a week after I got the rabbits … I ended up getting poulet again .
I know , you read my story onhow I got disembarrass of my sight and why … but this prison term it ’s move to be different . I have less wench … and I create a nifty fresh easy - to - move tractor I can scoot around the sleazy part of my front - thousand food timberland .
I ’m bright that this tractor is full enough to keep out the raccoon . If not , I ’ll add wire to the bottom as well . I just detest to keep the birds from till .
Anyhow , since the flora baby’s room has wed me to the family already , I figured I might as well lend some substance and egg back to the mix . We ’re already appreciating high - caliber scrambled egg … and before long I ’ll have rabbit stew , not to cite jerky .
Note to self : establish a pot home .
